So Cards Against Cancer started out as a small idea I had in the back of my head in 2012. My girlfriend was diagnosed with Leukemia back in 2009 but has been in remission since 2010. When she told me about her struggles, I wanted to do something. So I decided to run a 5K in her honor. But I also wanted to help and do a fundraiser where I could help whatever charity she wanted. She ultimately chose the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and I eventually became part of their Team in Training. I had no idea what to do when a friend told me “Why don’t you do a Magic tournament?”
It was like a light bulb went off in my head.
I wrote tons of artists and was able to get 14 amazing Magic: the Gathering artists to donate their amazing goods from prints to play mats to original art. Over 70 people showed up and we raised almost $4300. I ran the race and all was good in the world. Except for me. I wanted to do more running. I wanted to go for a longer distance. So I decided to do a half marathon. Flash forward to 2013 and Cards Against Cancer 2 was born. I learned a lot from the first one and I know that this will be a fantastic event. Every bit of money raised all goes to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I don’t see a dime.
So come, enjoy, play Magic and help a great cause!
